Welcome to the Ascension Church

"Welcome one another, therefore, just as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God" (Romans 15:7).

We are pleased to introduce you to the worship and fellowship that defines the life of our Parish, the Ascension of Our Lord Greek Orthodox Church. Located in Lincolnshire, Illinois, we belong to the Metropolis of Chicago, which is part of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and under the Ecumenical Patriarchate, and are under the omophorion (spiritual and ecclesiastical authority) of His Eminence Metropolitan Nathanael of Chicago.

We hope our website gives you a good sense of who we are as Orthodox Christians and what we believe about God and His Church. If you are a new steward, or are considering joining our Parish community, these web pages will acquaint you with our Parish life and what Ascension offers to those who give it support and sustenance.  To those who already belong to the Church, we hope the information on this website will provide you with the assurance that your sacrificial offerings are received with profound respect, and are utilized to maximum effectiveness.  It is our prayer that the information presented here will enable you to make the informed decisions that are necessary for a meaningful relationship with your Church.  If you would like to receive weekly email updates about the life of our parish, click HERE to join our email list.

Orthodoxy believes that the Church has her origin in the Apostolic Community called into being by Jesus Christ, and enlivened by the Holy Spirit. The Feast of Pentecost, which is celebrated fifty days after Easter, commemorates the "outpouring'' of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and marks the beginning of the mission of the Church to the world. We are Orthodox because our tradition of prayer and worship is rooted in the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic undivided Church.

The Orthodox Church was founded by Christ through the Apostles and has maintained a living, historical connection with the Apostolic Church through the ordination of its clergy. The bishop that ordains an Orthodox priest today can trace his ordination historically all the way back to the Apostles, and through them to Christ. For this reason we are “apostolic” – rooted in the first Apostles – the disciples of Jesus.

We are also apostolic because we believe our calling is to go out and share our faith with others. For this reason, we welcome you to Ascension of Our Lord Greek Orthodox Church. If you are a new steward, or are considering joining our Parish community, these web pages will acquaint you with our Parish life and what Ascension offers to those who give it support and sustenance. To those who already belong to our community, we hope the information on this website will provide you with the assurance that your sacrificial offerings are received with profound respect, and are used to maximize the spiritual and ministry offerings of our community. It is our prayer that the information presented here will enable you to make the informed decisions that are necessary for a meaningful relationship with your Church.

To all those who seek beauty, love, and truth, Orthodox Christianity welcomes you with open arms. We invite you to “come and see” (Jn 1:39) Orthodoxy; we are a diverse Christian community of 300 million faithful around the world, and we would be honored to pray, learn, and walk with you.
